Cleaning Glasses – Deep Cleaning

As with all important things in life, the same holds true for cleaning your glasses – you have to learn how to do it properly. People often wonder how often you should clean your glasses. If you clean them thoroughly once a week, you'll be able to enjoy your frames and lenses for longer.

1. The first step for deep cleaning starts with holding the glasses under running water to rinse off any coarse particles.
2. Then carefully rub the lenses with washing-up liquid and rinse again. This removes stubborn grease stains effectively, after which you can dry the glasses in a circular motion with a cotton kitchen towel.
3. Finally, go over the glasses again and polish them thoroughly in circular movements with a microfibre cloth.
Two important tips are still to come: do not use paper for cleaning! Don't use Kleenex, kitchen roll or anything similar, because you will scratch the surface of your lenses. And if you want to avoid returning to the opticians too soon, you should also stay away from strong cleaning agents such as Dettol, as these substances can directly damage lens coatings.
