About Dsquared2

Launched in 1995 in Milan, italian luxury fashion house Dsquared2 is known worldwide for its elaborate and colourful designs, including apparel, footwear, fragrances and of course Dsquared glasses and sunglasses.

If you want to know how the success of founders Dean and Dan Caten came about, you just have to put 1 + 1 together. Long before the twins founded their own brand DSquared² together, they were inseparable. The Canadian-born brothers laid the foundation for their career when they enrolled at Parson's School of Design in New York, where none other than Tom Ford also studied. The next milestones quickly followed, including moving to Milan, Italy, and working for fashion giants like Armani or Versace. While working for the Italian brand Diesel, young Dean and Dan were discovered and their talent recognised by the brand's founder, Renzo Rosso. Thanks to him, the twins were able to found their own model label, DSquared2, in Milan in 1994 and thus continue on the road to success.

Celebrity Fans of Dsquared2

Since then, the creativity of the two brothers has taken them around the world, catching the attention of big names outside the textile industry. Pop star Madonna, for example, hired the designer duo directly when she needed a sexy cowboy outfit for her music video for Don't Tell Me around the turn of the millennium. She went one better when she commissioned Dan and Dean to design 150 outfits for her Drowned World Tour so that all the dancers taking part would be in the right look on stage.

Although the fashion designers' focus at the time was on the men's collection, they increasingly worked with women from show business. With Christina Aguilera, another pop queen turned to DSquared2. She had a new image developed for her Stripped World Tour 2003. For the two tailors, who have always had a thing for theatre and art, this commission was a matter of the heart.

Accordingly, it did not take long for the fashion label DSquared2 to also offer a collection for women. The two lines, which were a smart mix of American styles and fancy Italian tailoring, received a lot of positive feedback after being presented on the catwalks of Milan. The collection's campaign was accompanied by models Karolína Kurková and Naomi Campbell. Even Rihanna appeared on the catwalk for DSquared2 in a black babydoll dress. Fellow singers Beyoncé and Usher as well as actresses Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton, among others, are also enthusiastic about the fashion brand.

Specialist Manufacturers

The first steps towards international expansion were taken in the form of licences. The first was granted to Diesel for the production and distribution of the DSquared2 collection. The idea behind this decision was to achieve the highest possible product quality through specialisation. Accordingly, DSquared works with specialised factories that produce only one type of product. For example, DSquared2 sneakers are produced in one and DSquared2 high heels in another. DSquared also grants licences to producers of perfume, cosmetics and eyewear. Since March 2008, Marcolin, one of Italy's largest eyewear manufacturers, has been contracted to make DSquared2 eyewear.

Dsquared Glasses Frames

Although the two brothers might look like peas in a pod, in their studio they create fashion that is bursting with contrasts. However, the designs of D and D have one thing in common - they radiate with energy. They are an experimental cocktail of different subcultures. For example, mixing outdoor elements with rock aesthetics. It's never boring, and always sexy.

The design concept of the DSquared eyeglasses - like the rest of the brand's fashion - is based on contrasts. In addition to this consistent design element, many other facets can be found in the DSquared eyewear catalogue that reflect the lives of the brothers, from youthful and crazy models to more serious and distinctive shapes with colourful contrasts on clean lines.
