Designed for both women and men, DG eyewear adds a touch of luxury, elegance and sartorial splendour to every outfit, no matter what the occasion. Already at the age of 6, the Sicilian Domenico Dolce designed and even sewed his own clothes. His talent and passion for fashion were already obvious and only increased as he got older. Later, Domenico Dolce met Stefano Gabbana while they were both working as assistant designers in Milan, and soon it became clear that they should go into business together. Professionally as well as privately on the same wavelength, the two founded a design consultancy company in Legano, next to Milan, in 1982. In 1985, the first collection by the fashion duo was shown at the Milan Fashion week. Just one year later, the first store of the brand Dolce & Gabbana opened. Thus, the foundation stone of the fashion imperium was laid.
The two Italians hit the fashion nerve of the time with their sensual, witty and over-the-top designs in the wake of the Milan fashion miracle of the 80s and 90s. Often seen as the unconventional little brothers of Giorgio Armani or Gianni Versace, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana turned the fashion world upside down in areas that previously seemed set in stone. It won't be forgotten how they showed Naomi Campbell or Gisele Bündchen around their old palazzo on Via San Damiano after their shows, how they took Madonna and Kylie Minogue high up as international testimonials, how they visually overwrought the artistically sensitive Milan.
Not only that but they were quick to recognize early-developing fashion trends and drastically influenced the way new fashion designs were presented. Their first move was to sit fashion bloggers in the front row seats of fashion shows, which had previously been reserved only for magazine editors, thereby readjusting the “Checks and Balances” in the fragile fashion world. In this way, Dolce and Gabbana succeeded in winning the digital world on all the most important platforms.
The two designers hold their protective or rather creative hands over everything. So it was not only a strategic but also a creative decision to discontinue the less successful second line D&G and instead not only breathe new life into the somewhat dusty bespoke tailoring, but also to give it an unmistakable new coat of paint. But the Italians are also innovative outside the realm of high tailoring. Instead of staging themselves at the traditional couture shows on the Paris or New York catwalks, as Armani, Versace or Giambattista Valli did, they chose dreamy places like Capri or Portofino as their locations for their Alta Moda shows. Here, fashion designs were presented that even left designers such as Miuccia Prada and Consuelo Castiglioni in awe.
This creativity also finds favor with a whole host of megastars such as Madonna, Monica Bellucci, Demi Moore, Kylie Minogue, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Artists such as Missy Elliot, Beyoncé, Selena Gomez and Mary J. Blige are also regular customers of the Italian fashion house.
Dolce and Gabbana eyewear is refined, classy and unique and belongs to the "crema di crema" of Italian Alta Moda a.k.a haute couture. Aside from the classic tortoiseshell and havana frame colours, Dolce & Gabbana goes a step further with leopard glasses frames (the signature "Leo print") and other unique frame patterns and shapes, which often pay homage to their Sicilian roots. Full rim frames using light-weight plastic and gold and silver coloured metals are the foundation of multiple winner styles, from understated to extravagant. Feeling spoilt for choice? If you're looking for a more feminine style, opt for a cat-eye or panto frame, or for a more angular look opt for rectangle or square frames. Whatever your style preferences, there is always something to suit both men and women in our range.
