Sunshine at last! And because it’s not just annoying to have to squint but also causes pesky wrinkles, you need a pair of stylish sunglasses. But which ones should you choose? In this blog post, we’ve summarised the eight biggest sunglasses trends for summer 2021 – with practical links to models for both men and women so you can get shopping straight away.
1) White Sunglasses

THE trend par excellence for 2021: sunglasses with thick, white acetate frames, either in elegant cat-eye shape or in round retro style. Incidentally, white sunglasses are just as wearable for men as they are for women, as Kurt Cobain once impressively showed. Combined with all white outfits or as a contrast to grunge styles, they are a real eye-catcher.

2) Aviator Sunglasses
The aviator sunglass style practically never goes out of fashion. Still, it’s all in the details. This summer, light colours and soft, earthy tones dominate instead of mirrored lenses. The aviator style is so popular for a reason – it give its wearer an instant coolness boost and enhances any outfit.

Big, bigger, Gucci! But it’s not just the Italian luxury brand, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, that relies on large-format sunglasses models – the square XXL trend runs through all labels. These glasses have a tendency to dominate an outfit and therefore need to be combined carefully.

If you prefer a more understated look, go for fine, elegant metal frames in summer 2021, preferably with discreet grey or brown tinted lenses. The perfect complement to minimalist skandi looks as well as classic styles.

Need more of a pop effect? Here you go: bright sunglasses in neon colours are probably the most eye-catching sunglasses trend in 2021. Whether pink, green, yellow or orange – anything with oomph is allowed. But here, too, it’s a must to combine them wisely with the right outfit so that you look like a catwalker and not a festival-goer.

Sunglasses Know-How:
All sunglasses you can buy in the EU must have UV protection and are CE marked accordingly. This applies to cheap glasses as well as to high-priced ones. Expensive glasses have better quality frames and lenses, but it’s still worth taking a look at the specific UV protection rating to make sure that your eyes are well protected. If you are going to the mountains or the beach, you should choose glasses with a high level of protection such as UV 400. The tint should then also be at least category 3, i.e. only allow 8 to 18 percent of the light through. Category 4, which is even darker, is fine for mountaineering but no longer suitable for road traffic. So, keep your eyes open when buying sunglasses.
