Bogner: Luxurious Retro-Chic in Deep Snow
A group of beautiful young people trudging through deep snow: if these pictures of Bogner’s current autumn-winter collection 2021/22 make you think of the 80s, you’ve most likely got an earworm of the Christmas evergreen “Last Christmas” by Wham! again. However, George Michael didn’t have llamas by his side in the accompanying music video like the Bogner models. Of course, it’s no coincidence that Bogner is visually referencing the eighties this winter. After all, this decade was one of his most creative periods.

How did Willy Bogner become a fashion designer?
Was Willy Bogner born with fashion sense? More likely he was born with a pair of skis, because Willy Bogner’s father was already an extremely successful ski racer. Wilhelm Hermann Björn Bogner Junior, who prefers to be called Willy, was also a multiple German champion in the 1960s and came 9th in the downhill at both the 1960 and 1964 Olympic Games. After his career ended, he joined his father’s skiwear company – and began designing ski fashion himself. A logical development that was to have far-reaching consequences for Willy Bogner.
Sônia, the muse at Willy Bogner’s side
In 1972, Willy Bogner married the Brazilian-born Sônia Ribeiro. She was not only the love of his life, but also the heart and soul of the Bogner company. The duo focused more and more on elegant sportswear, which became Bogner’s trademark alongside luxury skiwear. In the 80s, Bogner’s colourful down jackets and skin-tight overalls were winter must-haves. Not least because of the huge success of Bogner’s 1986 sports film Fire and Ice, which combined breath-taking ski footage with a raucous soundtrack. The film formed the blueprint for the youthful Bogner Fire & Ice sub-line, which was launched three years later.
Willy Bogner and James Bond: A Perfect Match
Willy Bogner Junior had already proven his suitability for action before: spectacular ski chases in several James Bond films are to his credit. As a cameraman, he skied backwards down the slope on special skis in James Bond 007 – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service to get the most unconventional shots possible. Willy Bogner was also responsible for the skiing sequences in The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only and A View to a Kill. The typical James Bond style can also be found in numerous collections by Bogner.
