“Of course the future interests me. I’m going to spend the rest of my life there.”
– It’s a well-known quote from Mark Twain. Although he made this statement two centuries ago, it is more relevant than ever. During this time of climate change, the effects of which are already being felt in many places, it is high time to turn things around. Edel-Optics also sees itself as a responsible actor here. Online mail order is the core business for us multichannel opticians. So we send a lot of packages every month, and with each package our CO2 footprint increases. That’s enough of that!
With our logistics partner UPS we now ensure that our parcels are delivered to you Co2 neutral. So our shipping is not only free for you, but also no longer happens at the expense of our environment. Neutral, really? As neutral as Switzerland! Of course, energy is used for all transport, and the production of the packaging material also consumes resources. And in the long term, the goal should be to reduce these as much as possible. But as long as emissions arise during transport, we at least want to compensate for them. This is possible through projects, which are supported through UPS Carbon Neutral Shipment. As a customer of this service, we pay UPS a higher amount so that part of it can be used, for example, for reforestation or water treatment.

Green glasses
While connoisseurs of “natural herbs” will probably think of a song by Dynamite Deluxe, we would like to show you can do more as someone who wears glasses. Long before your order is dispatched. Because we have glasses brands in our range that are one step ahead and already produce their products sustainably. For example, there’s Stella McCartney. The designer is a committed animal rights supporter and environmentalist. That’s why she insists that her glasses and sunglasses are not just superficially green but green through-and-through. Stella McCartney’s glasses do this by using Bio-acetate, which consists of 50% renewable natural resources. WOOD FELLAS also offers green glasses. The Munich company uses only FSC certified woods in their frames. The wooden glasses are not only very comfortable to wear, they also look flawless! The Kerbholz brand literally hits the mark. Their handmade sunglasses are made from cellulose acetate and precious wood, which comes from sustainable forestry. So Kerbholz glasses are almost 100% biodegradable.

Doing good things and talking about it
Since we’re right in the middle of things, we also want to mention our last charity campaign “Black4Good”. In November last year, we raised money for various charitable goals as part of Black Week. With every order that we received between 22 November and 2 December 2019, we donated 5 euros to the following organisations: VIER PFOTEN, EinDollarBrille, DKMS and DKMS LIFE in the DACH region and eight others in our focus countries. A total of 20,000 euros was raised, which the recipients of the money were very happy about. We are also happy to have made a difference here and would like to thank all of our customers who made a contribution with their order.
