And he really is. Yves Saint Laurent has made a name for itself in the fashion world because it gives people what they need and helps them become what they want to be. The actress Cathérine Deneuve agrees, raving about the designer with the following words: “During the day, they help us to survive in a world full of unknown people. And in the evening, they give us seductive charm.”
Yves Saint Laurent’s perspective, which focused on the beauty of the female body, made him a visionary and revolutionary in the fashion world. Partly scorned as scandalous, he changed the understanding of a world that he shaped over decades with his fashion. The media often discussed his transparent, black chiffon blouses with which YSL created the Nude Look. The pant suit for women (“Le Smoking”) is another one of the fashion designer’s creations, which even the New York Times reported with a mixture of admiration and astonishment on the front page.
The sunglasses and eyeglasses created by Saint Laurent (as the brand is called today) are all too happy to push boundaries and break with established conventions. The designs range from classic to cool and from unusual to rebellious or defiant.
