Looking around for sunglasses, one quite often comes across the expression „must-have“. “These sunglasses are a must-have!”, “Among the must-haves check out this model.”, “You cannot avoid this must-have this summer!” Must-have, must-have, must-have… It is pretty annoying, actually.
Well, we don’t have to buy every single specimen that has been labelled with this misnomer, that’s for sure. But couldn’t it be the case, maybe, that there is one or another pair of sunglasses that I would want to have in my wardrobe for real? I went to the bottom of things and noticed some trends that can be taken seriously this summer.
Back to the Roots
Surprise, surprise! Well, not really. The nineties are back – that’s not a surprise anymore. You can’t overlook it, especially not with street labels like Champion, Ellesse or Fila which, for some of us, are still familiar from back in the day. Last year they began to celebrate their big comeback, following the trend of logo blocking. What’s new is that this trend is infectious and now has spread to sunglasses as well. These Polaroid sunglasses are a prime example for this felt need of brand transmission.

Another child of the nineties are the slim rectangle sunglasses. Those of you who feel the vintage vibe, do make sure that this accessory is present in your wardrobe! If you choose a clean model with black lenses, you have a standard piece that can be combined with simply everything.
Suitable for any occasion from casual to red carpet, these sunglasses are beloved by the Hadid sisters Gigi and Bella, among others. Gigi’s passion for the slender rectangle models goes as far as having her design her own collection for the Vogue brand.
For the gentlemen we also have the suitable fine design. Our recommendation: Mont Blanc. This model remains geometrical in the classical fashion while its shape has been refined. So it is more than just a 90s copycat and nicely in line with the motto “regress with progress”.
Back to the Future
Instead of making regress with progress, why not make double progress, which takes us right into the future! Because it’s the future where you come from, arguably, when you put on a pair of shield sunglasses. This type of sunglasses has panorama lenses (one continuous lense) in shapes that are out of this world. For you not to end up in Area 51, we recommend shield sunglasses that don’t come across quite as extraterrestrial. So if you want to remain down to Earth, try these panorama sunglasses by Tom Ford, for example.
With these panorama sunglasses you get the best possible UV protection. But you should definitely pay attention here when it comes to appearance: this is a piece that comes across rather compact and heavy, so it’s not really a wise choice when you have a little snub nose. The shield shades should also be avoided by people with very pronounced facial features which then appear even squarer. If you have a round face however, you will welcome a design that adds a bit of character. Special pro tip: with this amount of flamboyance on your face, there is no need for any other jewellery.
Cat Eye Sunglasses – A “Wow!” with a “Meow!”
With members of the fair sex these feline sunglasses never seem to get boring. Once again we come across many examples of the kitten style, which is defined by a frame with upwardly pointed corners, a shape reminiscent of cats’ eyes. This year, in addition to the smaller, squarer varieties, we see a trend of gemstone ornamented cat eye sunglasses. Jimmy Choo sunglasses, among others, are known for this style. The Jimmy Choo Donna is worn by no one less than Kaia Gerber.
Low Key is Key
To make an appearance, the motto so far has been “think big”, but now there comes a style that the more reserved types among us will warmly welcome: tone in tone. Here the frame and the lenses are the same colour, which makes for an especially harmonious effect. This can then be enhanced further by choosing a transparent frame. As for the choice of colour, the rule of thumb goes: the lighter the tone the friendlier, the darker the tone the more dramatic.
When it comes to choosing the colour, everything you can see in a rainbow is allowed: from orange to yellow to blue, or the redder shades. With lighter coloured lenses one should avoid the direct glance into the sun though. A dark grey, a strong green or brown tones provide better sun protection. In any case, celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Millie Bobby Brown or Elton John also take delight in this style. Yet again, the best example comes from Kaia Gerber wearing the Tommy Hilfiger Sunglasses Orange.
But of course there is no need for you to follow a trend – you are kindly invited to set a trend yourself! We would like to make this possible for you by providing an enormous range of sunglasses in all shapes and colours. So don’t hesitate, just go, take a look and pick a style that rocks your summer!
