At the Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, we checked out the 2022 sunglasses trends for next spring. Ready for the SS22 style? Let’s go!
This year, the SS22 fashion weeks of the big four – New York, London, Milan and Paris – were able to return to a level of normality that we haven’t seen since the Covid-19 pandemic began. Instead of virtual catwalks or outdoor shows like the previous seasons, designers took the revival as an opportunity to celebrate big, brilliant catwalk parties and to go all out in terms of style. With so much fashion input, it’s easy to lose track of everything. Although we have appreciated the new clothing styles, we will of course concentrate here on developments above the shoulders, namely the sunglasses trends for Spring/Summer 2022. And as is the case at fashion weeks: you always encounter a few old acquaintances, but also discover exciting newcomers. Curious?
White Sunglasses
White as snow, white as a sheet, white as… must-have! What started in 2021 is also unstoppable in the coming season. Glasses with chunky white plastic frames and retro styling are and will remain indispensable from catwalks, beaches and city boulevards. For men (like on the left at Versace), for ladies (like Beyoncé in the middle at the Balmain show) and for fashionistas like on the right at the Prada show in Milan. Striking Frame Shapes
Whether neon, green, wildly patterned or structured with colourful elements – 2022 will be the year in which sunglasses styles have no limits. Anything expressive and eye-catching goes. Donatella Versace, for example, gave her male models pink retro oversized glasses. If you don’t dare to go for the boldest styles straight away, you can start with subtly upgraded models that stand out from the crowd with a modern frame structure, as seen at Fendi, for example.

Monotone Looks
There’s one trend for 2022 that you simply cannot miss – outfits in one colour from head to toe. From frog green to pink (as seen here at Dior) and red to cobalt blue – the main thing is that it pops! More subtle but no less impressive are all-white looks. Matching sunglasses either add to the play of colour with striking, colourful frames or create bold contrasts in classic black.

All in Black
Even if grey, white or nude are regularly said to be the new black – black remains the eternal classic on the catwalks and the streets. This is not only true for clothing, but also for sunglasses. The most spectacular is the combination of both, because nothing looks as mysterious, provocative and at the same time modern as an all-black look. In the coming year, the focus on futuristic shield glasses continues, such as at Balenciaga on the left or Balmain on the right. Otherwise, narrow acetate frames accentuate the face shape and add a 90s-modern look. (>>Click here for black shades)

Street Style Hype: Check
Even though it’s mainly seen off the catwalk, there is another trend which we won’t deprive you of and which already suits the autumn mood perfectly. Checks, in every imaginable variation, are currently the declared favourite of influencers. Sunglasses with a clear structure, either in black or white, go well with the striking pattern, as do light, subtle models in caramel or nougat shades. To also enjoy the check pattern on your sunglasses, take a look at Burberry sunglasses with their signature check print.
