What are the most important eyewear trends for 2022? In this blog post, we share the top 10 most popular glasses styles for women and men in 2022. From minimalist to extravagant and high street to designer, there is something for everyone!
Our Top 10 Glasses Trends 2022
1 FILIGREE METAL FRAMES
Last year’s fine, lightweight metal glasses become oversize models in 2022. When it comes to shapes: everything is in – from round to square frames to geometric styles, aviator glasses or Windsor glasses with circular acetate eyerims and a thin metal frame. Only in terms of colour is there a clear trend: gold and rosé.
2 ROUND GLASSES
One of last year’s winning styles is also a forerunner in the eyewear trends 2022: round glasses in all imaginable colours and materials continue to be highly popular in the current eyewear trends. Whether clean in silver Ghandi style as with Calvin Klein, oversize gold-rim with Ray-Ban or in an intellectual Havana tone as with Marc O’Polo – round makes everyone happy!
3 NATURAL MATERIALS
Perhaps one of the most exciting eyewear trends in 2022 is frames made from natural materials. Frames made of wood or genuine buffalo horn impress with their high wearing comfort and renewable materials. These materials are also incredibly light and comfortable to wear. Wooden glasses are available in every imaginable type of wood, so there is plenty of room for individual unique pieces.
4 AVIATOR GLASSES
Aviator glasses are a real high flyer, especially as sunglasses. No wonder, because although the casual pilot style doesn’t make you a hero of the skies, it does add a dash of fearlessness to any outfit. This year, however, the Aviators are mainly used as prescription glasses. Whether as a shimmering metal classic from Ray-Ban or in the intellectual acetate version from Persol – there’s no getting away from aviator glasses at the moment.
5 BROWLINE GLASSES
The sixties also remain on trend and with them one of the most legendary forms of eyewear: Browline frames. They are an absolute must-have among the eyewear trends in 2022 and flatter practically every face shape with their highlighted brow area. The classic (also found among this year’s sunglasses trends) gives you the perfect intellectual look with retro charm.
6 TRANSPARENT PLASTIC GLASSES
Another of the 2021 eyewear trends that will continue into this year: transparent glasses made of acetate. Especially angular frame shapes like the Plank model by Oakley combine well with the casual lightness of the translucent material. But the trend is not dependent on certain shapes; transparency is just as in vogue for round models. Glasses made of translucent plastic can also be larger because of their airy appearance – have fun experimenting!
7 SEVENTIES STYLES
This trend is not necessarily suitable for every face and every style, but those who like to dress extrovertly have reason to cheer this year: oversized models in Seventies style are one of the most eye-catching eyewear trends in 2022. In a material mix of plastic and metal, with stones, glitter, colours. However, you should make sure to counteract this with suitable make-up, after all, your eyes should be the focus and not just the extravagant style of your glasses. If you like, you can wear your Seventies glasses in style with a glasses chain. But beware: if you have a strong prescription, large, thick lenses might look a bit strange.
8 TORTOISESHELL + HAVANNA
Glasses in Havana or Tortoise patterns have been in for years because their neutral tones or marbled pattern make them suitable for practically any style and skin tone. One of last year’s eyewear trends was coloured variations of these patterns, often in green, pink or purple. It won’t be quite so colourful this year, the focus is on nude shades, grey nuances and glasses in very light Havana.
9 BLACK STATEMENT GLASSES
If you’re going to wear glasses, then wear a statement pair! That’s the motto of the massive, black statement glasses that are heavily on trend in 2022. Here, the necessary becomes an eye-catcher, the form becomes fashion and the (non)colour becomes a must-have. Be bold, be black – and like cult musician Buddy Holly, make your glasses your trademark. Tom Ford, Prada and Givenchy lead the way – and you can never go wrong with the fashion-forward designs of these top brands anyway.
10 VERY PERI
Ambivalent times need independent colour shades – and so the Pantone Color Institute has completely recreated the trend colour for 2022. The result was a bluish violet called Very Peri, which is supposed to stand for a spirit of optimism. The shade looks particularly beautiful on acetate frames like the transparent Alisha frame from the Edel-Optics collection with designer Guido Maria Kretschmer. An eyewear trend as light as a spring breeze.
