I discovered Maui Jim sunglasses in Hawaii where it sells at a discounted price at Costco. I was driving and I noticed that my head was hurting. I realized it was from the glare of the sun. So I tried on my husband's Maui Jims and my headaches disappeared when I used it while driving. I have since moved and still buy Maui Jims due to their bang for the buck price, quality and the lightness of their sunglasses. The lens are still clear despite being at least 10 years old. They have an Asian fit.

Arm Broke away from Lens 3rd time worn

I love these glasses!!! However, they are NOT durable! I BABIED them and the arm still broke completely away from the lens. VERY disappointing for this brand and the cost of these sunglasses!! I am trying to find away to contact Maui Jim about either repairing or replacing them.

Fantastic Sunglasses

This is my 3rd pair of Maui Jim sunglasses and as usual they don't disappoint with quality or sun protection. I work and live in a very sunny, very hot place and and when you wear these you almost can't feel them because they are so light. They feel very delicate. I had the same feeling about the Maui Jim Ho'okipa Sport Sunglasses when I first bought them and I was afraid I was going to break them. I bought them in October 2021 and they still have held up nicely. These 'Akau Polarized Rimless Sunglasses are even lighter, or least feel that way. I also thought the green color would be nice for a change. So if I already have 2 other pairs, plus 2 pairs of round lens classic Ray Bans why by these? I guess my thing is sunglasses and I rotate through them during the week just for a different look. I also like the new case. At first I didn't think I would because I have one of their older cases but the cover is coming off. It's easier to pop this one into a pocket or whatever because it folds up flat, nothing to peel off. I highly recommend them.

I've had Maui Jim sunglasses before but this one was my first new purchase in a number of years. I like how it's very lightweight and does not leave any impressions on your nose. In bright sun, the glasses do their job to keep my eyes from squinting and they're fashionable. Would buy again.

The only ones for me

I've been wearing these since I first got them six years ago. I buy a new pair every year and wear them nearly year round. Lightweight, flexible, comfortable and great quality. They barely leave an unprotected area and fit so well I forget I'm wearing them.
Just hope they never stop making them!

Really comfortable

These glasses are almost so light I'm afraid they will blow off my face, lol. They are amazingly clear and excellent for looking down in the water and cutting glare. The only drawback I can see is the are extremely flexible. So much so it usually takes both hands to put them on. But they are comfortable. If you like putting your glasses on your hat these will disappoint you, they fall right off. All in all though they are really good glasses.

I should have got the more expensive ones.

Loved the sunglasses 😎 but I had a pair that were the same style but a different color that I lost. They were Maui Jim’s but more expensive than these. I’m still mourning for those sunglasses.

I Returned Them

They look cool and are very light. Just too flimsy for me. I had a pair awhile back and the lenses kept breaking off. Get's expensive to replace. Did not realize this was the same style until they delivered. They're cool, if you are very gentle while cleaning lenses.

Stylish, light weight and functional

These Maui Jim Akau Sport Sunglasses are sporty and light weight. I love their style. The case will folds up and actually turn into a carrying case for the glasses themselves. They are simply attractive and stylish, and like almost all Maui Jim sunglasses they are a pleasure to wear.

Maui Jim Akau Sport Sunglasses

This is my second pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses. Compared to \"The Bird Rectangular\" Sunglasses, these are much lighter and smaller. You almost feel like you don't have anything on at all, which is great, especially if you are using these during active outdoor outings.Like the \"The Bird\" pair, these have flexible temples which allow for an adjustable, comfortable fit, even for people with larger or wider heads. For comfort they get an A+. The main part of the lens is dark and filters out sunlight very well. I did notice that due to the lack of frames around the lenses though I felt like it didn't quite block out all of the sunlight around the edges like \"The Birds\" do. I live in the land of the midnight sun and the light filtering aspect is the most important feature to me, next to comfort. For light filtering I give them a B, hence why I took off a star.

Very lightweight

These sunglasses are very lightweight and I barely notice them while I'm wearing them. They flex/stretch to fit my head and face, because of this they have a pretty decent grip and they don't slip down my nose or fall off while running or looking down. They provide good protection on sunny days and don't hinder (or make it too dark)vision in cloudy weather. The case they come with is very nice and can be collapsed to be flat which is great for storing it in a bag or in my pocket when I'm wearing the sunglasses. The case also has a nice smooth feeling to it. The cleaning cloth the sunglasses come with sadly seem to be of cheap quality, it won't scratch the lenses but it doesn't do a great job at cleaning them either.

Nice Trendy Sunglasses

I like these sunglasses as they look trendy. When I first held them, they felt very lightweight (made of plastic) but over time (wearing them for over a month) they seem as durable as other sunglasses. Because they are not made of metal, they don't heat up as much as my metal sunglasses left in the car. The box says they are polarized, and the view looking through them are pretty neutral and definitely help reduce sun glare. The sunglasses came with a foldable case and a lens tissue. These definitely are great to have for those long hot sunny summer days!I got these as part of the Amazon Vine program.

While this isn't my first set of higher quality sunglasses, I have to say that Maui Jim knocked it out of the park on this one!I had opened the package and was a little perplexed that I only had the glasses, a case for what appeared to be the cleaning cloth, and a set of instructions. The case that folds up flat actually turns into a carrier / case for the glasses themselves. This is an incredibly smart design and I'm amazed how well put together this whole setup is.Onto the glasses themselves - They are extremely lightweight, which was a great surprise. Not that I expected them to be heavy, however, given the weight of them they are a joy to wear. Construction and quality are there. It has been sometime since I've had polarized sunglasses, thus these definitely take the edge off being outside in the Arizona sun!Overall they are just right for me - I enjoy simplicity and great value in a small package. I'm personally use to wearing the aviator style sunglasses, however, these are a welcome addition to my collection!

Exceptional quality

If you want to know what you will look like in these sunglasses, just go watch The Matrix again. No kidding. I get Neo comments every time I wear them. But that just tells you how noticeable these sunglasses are.The quality is outstanding, but they are very light. If you sit on them, they are probably going to be toast. But I love how they never leave red pad marks on my nose. The lens quality is insane and they block all of the harmful rays. Overall, these are highly recommended.

Lightest Sunglasses Ever?!? Feels like there's nothing on your face.

These things are incredibly lightweight and nimble. Like shockingly so! 10grams total weight, less than half an ounce. I tried to capture that with my picture, but you really can't appreciate these until you see them in person. It feels like you'll break them in a second, luckily I'm not one to shy away from a challenge, happy to report they're actually quite more robust than they look. I guess you could tell that by the brand, and the quality in craftsmanship already, but I put them to work and they're holding up good so far. Nose pad is adjustable, but not a great deal, so if you have a really picky nose (pun) I'd probably avoid.Let's not mince words, these are solid sport sunglasses with killer lens, that would make every dad at your local golf club red with envy. I encourage everyone to read the product description to find out what these are all about, instead of just scanning the marketing bullet points -- these are unique.

Comfortable and Amazing Polarization

I’ve been a Ray Ban customer for decades. I decided to try Maui Jim’s for a change. They are a lot more comfortable and they stay on my face!
I wore them to the lake yesterday and the colors of nature were amazing and brilliant. The polarization is the best I’ve ever seen. I love the lenses and will buy again. They are worth every penny.

Perfect! Green lens is just the shade of green I was looking for. These are very light, almost too light but super comfortable. Need to be careful with these. One of the ear pieces “ snapped off” from where it connects to the lens. I was happily surprised that it easily snapped back on. Great sunglasses!

I mistakenly purchased this model thinking that the lenses were grey. They were green as advertised, and I am now very pleased with my purchase. Before I wore these, I didn't realize how much light I was losing through polarized grey lens glasses. I put the Maui Jims on, and it's still daylight but without the glare. I ride a motorcycle and want all the light I can get. These fill the bill much better than standard grey-lens glasses. As a bonus, they fit well and look sharp.

Waited about a year before reviewing, just to see how they would hold up. The verdict: I love them. I like aviators, but the traditional glass lenses and metal frames were too heavy and kept sliding down my nose. Not so with this sporty pair.
I wear them when I'm out, when I'm driving, when I'm jogging... pretty much all the time. I was hesitant at first to go frameless, but the minimalist style means these sunglasses look good whether it's a with a suit or swim trunks. They come with a hard protective case that I use while traveling. They also come with a soft cloth pouch, which I use for my backup pair of Bolle sunglasses I keep in the car.

These are just great, i had my RB aviators for couple of years now and i always owned one. But i always had my trouble with them when hiking or when going to beach. Normally i am not big fan of plastic glasses, but these are really really well made and stylish. Good thing is i can wear them for hours while hiking even with the humid conditions. Also they do not have too much of that plastic frame, so awesomely light weight and stylish look. Worth every penny.

I got these as a additional pair that I paid way more for at a fish and sports store. They are very light while wearing and hold securely to my face when working. Ideal for wearing all day. I like the lighter tint for transition from outside to indoors without having to remove them and Maui clarity is fantastic. These are sized well for us larger folks and may be to big for smaller faces, unless you're going for the oversized look.

Best sunglasses for everything. I use them running, going to a ballgame, driving, or relaxing at the beach. The plain gray tinting does not alter colors in any fashion, but cuts down glare and sunlight better than all sunglasses I've owned. They are super lightweight and very comfortable. My last pair got scratched from too many drops, then stolen after 3 years hard use so I had to buy again to replace them. I will make sure I own at least one pair of these the rest of my life.

Light, slight wrap around the eyes, not good for motorcycle riding as they let in too much wind, but that's not why I bought them. Very happy with these and look better than Ray Ban aviators (and $50 cheaper)

These maui jim shades are GREAT. I have owned a pair " of different style" in the past, that last for about 9 years. I took these pair to Europe and they were so comfortable to wear, I NEVER felt the need to remove them due to weight or discomfort. The only thing you may want to consider if you are of "slim facial features" is to order a neck strap, this way you are sure not to drop these as you look downward, if needs be.

Just received this afternoon and started using immediately. I was driving in heavy rain with this glass on and for a while i put off the glass and found what an amaging thing this one is, even with heavy rain i can see clearly infront of me everything which is not possible without the glass. Simply awsome. I have been using brand and non brand sun glasses but Maui Jim sugar beach is the real champ. Very light weight seems like wearing no glass at all. Thumbs up.

Very light and comfortable, great warm lens colour, come with hard pouch and cleaning cloth pouch, a bit too light to stay on the head, but great for driving though, the lenses are polarized but still offer very clear view of mobile screen.

Stylish, Clear and Comfortable

My favorite Maui's to date. These are so light and comfortable, it's easy to forget their on your face. Even the lenses aren't constantly reminding your eyes that you're peering through a darkened piece synthetic material. They are plenty dark for the brightest of days, but transition quite nicely into cloud cover or more dimly lit environments. Seriously; it can be very easy to forget these are on your face, so please, don't forget and become that "indoors sunglasses-wearing guy" (nobody likes that guy). The lenses also give everything a nice sharp, clear, contrast.
I have a hard time finding sunglasses that aren't cartoonishly wide for my face/temples, but the Sugar Beaches have a perfect fit. I wouldn't call them narrow, but they do fit my "narrowish" temples exactly as I would hope from any pair of glasses. While these are styled like a pair of Aviators--and have very similar look when worn--they feel much more secure, "sporty", and block out more light from the edges in comparison. I feel like these wrap the face and cover the eyes better than most traditional Aviator-styled sunnies. I bought these after owning a pair of MJ Lighthouses for the past few years (same "sport" model glasses with different shaped lenses). The problem I had with the Lighthouse model was that too much light came in from the side and reflected back to my eye. This was especially problematic if the sun was more to my back; this would cause my eyes to sting and burn after a while. I do not have this problem at all with the Sugar Beach glasses.
I regularly wear these golfing and they do not budge when looking down at my ball or throughout my swing (unlike my traditional Aviator-styled glasses). And again, if the sun is to my back, I don't get a distracting reflection like I did with my Lighthouses or Aviators.
And if you're not familiar with Maui Jim's service, it is top notch if you have to send anything in for repair. I had a different "sport" model that broke at the bridge and right temple piece, and the lenses were LIGHTLY scratched. They were 3 years old at the time and out of warranty. Maui Jim gave me a "complementary" replacement set of lenses, replaced the temple for free, and only charged for the bridge and the service fee. The end result was a brand new pair MJ sunglasses for only $50 all within a week (originally paid $130, and they didn't "repair" anything, just replaced the pair).

I can see so well in the sunlight that those freaking speed cops that try and hide can no longer pull this bitch over. I use to get a lot of tickets because my Ray Bans were so heavy on my nose they left dents. Not good on a person..know what I mean? Maui Jim's are super light. No dents on my face. Love my Maui Jim Sport Sugar Beach sunglasses....

I love these sunglasses! I had a pair before, Sugar Beach, that my husband bought for me while we were in Florida on vaca. Then last year, we went and tried stand up paddle boarding. I forgot I had them on top of my head. I fell off the board and my sunnies quickly went to the bottom of the river. I was quite disappointed. Anyway, I think these new sunnies have bigger lenses than the ones before. They offer excellent protection from the suns glare. They kind of wrap around your face. Everything looks vivid, bright, and clear with these. You can really tell the difference in comparison to the cheaper drugstore sunglasses you can purchase. Maui Jim Sport Sugar Beach glasses are sweet! Get them, you'll be glad you did!

Almost perfect for me

My fourth pair of various Maui Jims. I liked the styling of these lenses and minimalist frame. Price was good, about $20 less than everyone else. The reason for -1 star is only because the nose pads are just a bit too narrow for the bridge of my nose. I may contemplate heating the plastic a bit and bending them out as it tends to pinch my nose, even with the very low weight. Otherwise, great MJ optics and great Amazon service.

If you've never owned a pair like this, take the plunge! You'll never go back to any other brand. Wearing these sunglasses is like not wearing anything....except you get Polarized protection! They are so light on your face, it's like not wearing anything at all...just be aware that they are not indestructible and Maui Jim will NOT replace these free of charge if you sit on them or drop them from your pocket from the 12th floor veranda of your hotel in Maui! I've had several pair break like that right where the lens is connected to the arm. You MUST remember, these HAVE NO FRAMES!! That's why they are so cool and so light....treat them right and they'll treat you right in return....oh, and a good price too from this vendor...especially when you throw in your Amazon Prime membership privileges.

Best glasses ever

I bought a pair of these about three years ago and have loved them ever since. They were heavily used and abused in that time and more than held up. I had to replace them due to a high speed boating incident. I've owned other expensive glasses and these are by far the best. They are so light and comfortable I sometimes forget I'm wearing them.

They are classy, light (very light) and well built. I feel that they are unisex...I use it and so does my wife and they look good on both of us.

These are the lighter, sportier (and cheaper) versions of Maui Jim's. I have a pair of Kahuna's too, which I love. These are perfect for being by the pool or beach, or playing golf or other sports. Impossible to shake them off of your head, and they are not huge like most aviators. They are perfect to block maximum sun while looking awesome.

Fit well

My boyfriend loves them. They fit his head (which is sometimes a problem). They do well blocking sunlight and we love the simple yet sleek design. We also love the heavy duty case they came with so it's less likely for them to get broken and the hook that he can attach to his bags so that he doesn't lose them. So far so good.

The googles is light, fitts well and very flexible. After a long time I found a goggle of my liking.

I had destroyed my previous pair of MJ's by being forgetful. I was so enamored with them that I got online asap to find another pair. They were even less expensive than the original pair. Lucky me! They showed up less than 5 days after ordering. This brand is the ultimate for being in the desert sun. Great glare protection and very well made.

BETTER than what I replaced!

I HAD a pair of MAUI JIM glasses for years. Had them on my top and while shopping, guess I bent over & the fell off. Didn't know until I returned to the car and.... These are by far a better purchase! 1) I like the looks better, although a tad larger frame, still the remarkable quality! 2) I paid close to 1/2 (less) for these, than what I pair for the old ones! 3) Although I feel the look of the old was more complimentary to my face, when riding my Harley, they do allow me to wear them cutting the wind and providing excellent glare and reflection resitance! So.... I'm VERY pleased with this purchase! Probably will get another pair (maybe 2) for different colors! Granted, this brand of glasses are expensive. I won't go as far as saying they are worth it for regular retail, but will with Amazon!I am fairly new to Amazon and have been in awe since I looked at the very first item! I was in total flip out, thinking it had to be a mistake, when I saw the price of these glasses! THEN, when the arrived (very quickly), I was even more impressed! Sadly, I do have a couple returns I will be making. If that goes as smoothly as everything else has, Amazon has a lifelong customer!

Simply awesome

This is the best pair of sunglasses I have owned. I used to be a Ray-Ban guy, but now it's Maui Jim all the way. These glasses are super light-weight and stylish. The polarization works really well, but be aware that it can have negative effect with LCD screens (the first time I looked at my iPad in portrait mode while wearing them, I thought the screen was off).
For an idea of the style of these glasses, they are like a frameless modern take on the classic aviator style, with a little bit of wrap-around. They are large enough that the sun won't creep in over the top, so they're really great on super bright days.
TL;DR, I can't recommend them highly enough.

Best lenses out there!

I always thought it was ludicrous to spend $150+ on a pair of sunglasses when you can get them for $15 at your local convenience store. But one day five years ago I decided to splurge a little bit and I purchased a pair of Maui Jim's. It was the best $170 I ever spent. I lost them in a wave runner accident in January and was devastated. But I knew I had to buy another pair. The comfort of the glasses and crispness of the lenses is incomparable. I wear them to golf a lot, and oftentimes I forget I'm even wearing them (that's how comfortable they are). And I wouldn't dare drive on a sunny day without them. I highly recommend you buy a pair of Maui Jim's and enjoy.

Best lenses

I've had a few pair of Maui Jims and I think these are one of the best brand of sunglasses. The clarity of the lenses and for people with active lifestyles, these are the best. I got these for driving and some volleyball. These are so light weight and I don't get any sinus pressure or headaches from these. The nose grips are fantastic. I have an oily nose and its so annoying when they slide down and I have to push them up constantly. These are great for just casual wear too. As some other reviews have pointed out with the hinges on the side, I could see that these might need some tightening after some use but time will tell. I'll update this review if it becomes a problem.

best sunglasses ever

These are truly the most comfortable sunglasses I have ever owned. They are extremely light weight and durable. I love them.

My first pair of MJ Sugar Beaches was before cataract surgery. They completely cut the glare, allowing me to not only drive but also be outside at all (before and after the surgery). I ordered another pair when I gave those to my aunt who has glaucoma. Now we both can see any- and everywhere -- and have a touch of that Jackie O flair as well.

I've had Oakleys, Arnettes, Spys, Pradas, Guccis, Serengetis, etc and nothing compares to the optical quality of these sunglasses. I choose this color because of looks and they do a fair decent shading protection, but the black ones should do an even better job. So far I'm really satisfied with my buy and would definitely recommend it.

I've always been a fan of light sunglasses. I own few of them like Bolle, Ray Ban and Oakley. Haven't decided yet which one I like the best.

Would have given 5 stars if the material had been glass rather than plastic. A little expensive for plastic glasses.

great glasses

Excellent glasses - they are super comfortable, feels almost like you're not wearing anything. Lens quality is excellent, and I love the aviator shape without having the heavy rims. These are one of the best sunglasses I've ever owned. The only downside is that the lenses don't hug your face, so if the sun is directly overhead it still gets in your eyes. So if you're in a car with the sunroof open or out at mid-day you'll want a hat too.

Finally someone has made an aviator style pair of sunglasses without any metal. The Maui Jim Sugar Beach sunglasses and extremely light and fit my face perfectly. You really don't realize you have sunglasses on your face. This is my 3rd pair of Maui Jim's and while I have liked the other two pair (Sandy Beach and Haupuna), these are the sunglasses I have been waiting for. Thanks Maui Jim!
