The first Polo Ralph Lauren shop at Bloomingdales followed as early as 1970. In the same year, his men's line was also awarded the renowned Coty Award fashion prize, giving him a fast start in business that every businessman could only wish for.

Equestrian Inspiration

Ralph Lauren developed his unmistakable preppy chic mainly because of one event: he had attended a polo match and was fascinated by the smell of leather, the powerful horses and the chic ladies with their big hats. This very glamorous but at the same time gritty world was the epitome of style for him. The galloping polo player became his trademark and is now one of the logos known all over the world.
