About Bvlgari

Bvlgari (sometimes written Bulgari), the third largest jewellery producer on the planet after Cartier and Tiffany's, was founded in Rome by Sotirios Voulgaris and now offers not only rings, necklaces and bracelets, but a whole range of products such as watches, accessories, leather goods and perfume as well as Bvlgari sunglasses and glasses.

A silversmith from a Greek village near Epirus, Voulgaris pitched his tents permanently in the Eternal City from 1880 after first visiting Corfu and Naples. There he found the suitable location to lay the foundation for his very own Roman Empire. Bvlgari has since grown to become a world renowned label that stands for elegance, craftsmanship and luxury.

So why Bvlgari instead of Bulgari?

Simple. Because the letter "u" does not exist in the classical Latin alphabet and is replaced by the letter "v", so that the Italian luxury manufacturer is linked not only by its location with the ancient Romans, but also by its peculiar spelling.

And where does the name Bvlgari come from anyway?

As he was setting up in Italy, Sotirios Voulgaris changed his Greek name into the phonetic version Sotirio Bulgari.

Bvlgari Style

With the expansion to other core areas such as hotels or Bvlgari Eyewear, the products of the Italians did not lose their appeal at all. Then as now, Andy Warhol's saying still holds true: "For me, a stop in a Bvlgari shop is like a visit to the best exhibition of contemporary art."

And that is exactly how the luxury brand presents itself. Bvlgari's unique look can be traced as much to Roman and Greek influences as to Italian Renaissance touches or Parisian fashion sense and Art Deco style. A constant flow of inspiration is also offered by the beautiful Italian capital, with its pulsating life against a backdrop steeped in history and art. Beauty can be found around every corner, which infuse the designs of the Bvlgari collections. The result is extraordinary creations that have enchanted stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich and Gary Cooper

Bvlgari Glasses Frames

As one of the world's largest jewellers, Bvlgari certainly plays to its strengths when it comes to eyewear. With gold, silver and even pink gold detailing and sparkling gemstones, Bvlgari frames are closer to jewellery than your average pair of glasses. Just as with their accessories and bags, the natural world seems to have inspired many of the latest Bvlgari eyewear collections, featuring organic lines and details such as snakeskin patterns or gemstone flowers adorning the frames. Typical frame materials used are metals and plastic acetate in subtle colours such as tortoiseshell brown, black and dark red. While our range mostly contains Bvlgari glasses for women, we also offer Bvlgari men's glasses in bold shapes like the round panto frame or more angular frame shapes like classic rectangle in full rim, half rim or rimless. For those looking for a more feminine frame shape, check out Bvlgari's own unique approach to cat eye frames, some of which have slightly curved temples to add even more of an organic feel.
