About the Clubmaster - Design Classic with Star Appeal

Cool and intellectual in one - the Ray-Ban Clubmaster is the perfect pair of glasses for every situation and every look. It's not without reason that it became one of the most iconic models of the world-famous eyewear brand Ray-Ban, alongside the Ray-Ban Aviator and the Ray-Ban Wayfarer. With its distinctive browline shape, the Clubmaster cuts just as good a figure in sunglass-form as well as glasses form. Available in classic colours such as black or tortoiseshell brown with gold temples, it suits any outfit. Thanks to stars like Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, Beyoncé or Robert Pattinson, the Clubmaster style has experienced a comeback in recent years. Today, fashionistas love the preppy chic style of the browline frame. But the hype around the Ray-Ban model began much earlier:

History of the Ray-Ban Clubmaster

The first Browline model was developed in 1947 in the USA - at that time still as a construction kit model with interchangeable temples and nose bridges. This was already a great creative improvement over the few eyewear models available at the time. This frame style quickly became very popular and in the 1950s almost half of all spectacle wearers wore such a model, including such famous personalities as human rights activist Malcolm X, US President Lyndon B. Johnson or Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken. In the 1960s, the popularity declined as spectacle frames made of plastic became fashionable. These offered a significantly greater design freedom in terms of colours, sizes and shapes.

Eyewear Star of the Movies

Browline models experienced their first renaissance when the Ray-Ban brand launched the Clubmaster in 1986 – as a reinterpretation of the styles from the fifties. The characteristic shape quickly became the favourite of film directors, especially in classic black. Not least through appearances on the nose of Bruce Willis as a detective in the cult series "The Model and the Snoop" ("Moonlighting"). The series not only made Bruce Willis famous in no time at all, but also the Clubmasters. As a result, the iconic unisex Ray-Ban frame played a leading styling role for Tom Cruise in "Rain Man", Kevin Costner in "JFK", Tim Roth in "Reservoir Dogs ", Michael Douglas in "Falling Down" or most recently Halle Berry in "Kingsmen: The Golden Circle".

Ray-Ban Clubmaster Variations - A Model with Many Personalities

There are now many different versions of the Ray-Ban Clubmaster sunglasses and glasses. The Clubround RX4246V is currently very trendy and combines the browline frame with rounder lenses. The Clubmaster Square (RB3916), on the other hand, has a more angular lens shape that gives round faces more contour.

The Clubmaster Aluminium (RB3507) is particularly light, with the brow line made of brushed aluminium instead of plastic. The Clubmaster Metal (RX3716VM) also relies on an overall composition of metal, in this case brushed, which gives the style an elegant finish.

Particularly practical is the Clubmaster Folding / Ray-Ban (RB2176) model, where the frame can be folded at the nose bridge and at the temples and thus fits easily into even the smallest handbag or breast pocket.

The models of the Ray-Ban Clubmaster (RB3016) series could almost be called the Classic Collection, that's how popular they are - especially in the colour black. The RB3016 is, so to speak, its own icon within the family, either in brown tortoise look or classic in the black and gold variant.

Original Ray-Ban Lenses

All Ray-Ban models can be ordered with original Ray-Ban prescription lenses, which already include blue light filter and 100% UV filter. Even sunglasses models can be ordered without tint, so that they can be used as prescription glasses or reading glasses. For the sunglasses, there is a choice of monochrome, gradient or mirrored tints, as well as polarised lenses and of course UV 400 protection.
